Centreville, founded around the mid 1700s, received it’s name due to it being central between other towns forming in the area such as Alexandria, Georgetown, Leesburg, Warrenton, and interestingly Middleburg. The town was built on a turnpike that would help connect the Northwest Territory to the neighboring towns and later became the location of the first military train system in America during the Civil War.
